Will 2009 be another Super Bowl win for the New England Patriots?

New England Patriots, originally known as the Boston Patriots, have made quite the name for themselves over the years. They began their career as a struggling AFL team, but quickly turned things around after the NFL / AFL merger. Over the years, the Patriots have won a number of Super Bowl and Division Championships. As one of the top AFC Eastern Division teams, football fans alike, expect to see the Patriots make a run for the title in 2009.

The New England Patriots were the eighth team to ever be signed to the AFL, and have been playing football since 1959. Between Billy Sullivan, owner of the new AFL team, and a local artist, they came up with the teams name, colors, and logo and were off to play football from here.

These were tough times for any football team, but especially for the Patriots. The team did not have field to call home so they jumped from field to field – Fenway Park, Alumni Stadium, Nickerson Field, and Harvard Stadium. The Patriots made their first big league appearance in 1963 at the AFL championship game, but did not see another big game until more than 10 years later.

In the 70s, the team became an NFL franchise and moved to the suburbs, away from the big city. Along with this move came the infamous name of the New England Patriots. These changes were just what the doctor ordered. The next decade brought a number of playoffs and division championship titles to the newly founded team. In 1985, the team played hard and was rewarded with the chance to play in the Super Bowl game that year. The number of accomplishments and records is what made the team who they are today.

The Patriots have won a handful of Super Bowl games, which include winning Super Bowl XXXVI, XXXVIII, and XXXIX. They are one of only eight teams to every win two consecutive Super Bowl games, and one of two teams to ever win three Super Bowl games in a five-year span! These are just a couple of reason why the Patriots are the legendary team that they are.

An exceptional coach – Bill Belichick – and an amazing quarterback – Tom Brady, lead the Patriots – continuously – to victory. With these two guiding their every step, the team managed to win their way to an 18-game winning streak in 2003 – 2004 and another 21-game winning streak in 2006 – 2008; the second of which happens to be the longest streak in NFL history! (The team continued their winning streak into the playoffs; however, playoff games are not calculated into the winning streak records.)

After many tough years, the Patriots proudly call Gillette stadium their home field. With no worries about jumping from field to field, the Patriots can focus on winning games and breaking records! They had a slow start but are now not only top in their division, but one of the best NFL teams to exist in the history of the NFL.

The 2009 season will open more doors for the Patriots and the fans that cheer them on at every game. With the winning streak that the team is on, it would be a shock if they did not make it to the championship games and bring home a championship title this year. Season tickets are already gone, in anticipation of an exceptional year, and very few one-off tickets remain.
