Road to the Olympic Games: Alpine skiing, big air, bobsleigh and skeleton

This week’s show begins with alpine skiing action from Val d’Isere, France, as the world’s best men’s skiers compete in the first downhill race of the season. Former world champion Erik Guay posted the best training run ahead of the the event, but the Canadian will face stiff competition from the returning king of the mountain – Aksel Lund Svindal.

World Cup big air snowboard from Germany is up next at 3 p.m. ET, where the women’s field will try and prevent Austria’s Anna Gasser notching a third-straight win.

Canada’s decorated sliders begin the new season of World Cup bobsleigh and skeleton at 4 p.m. ET from Whistler, B.C. The 2010 Olympic track is known as the fastest in the world and will provide an early test for athletes.

Saturday’s coverage is rounded out by women’s alpine skiing from Alberta at 5 p.m. ET, where gold is up for grabs with 18-time Lake Louise winner Lindsey Vonn sidelined due to injury. Canada’s Candace Crawford and Valerie Grenier will battle with superstars Mikael Shiffrin and Lara Gut in the women’s downhill race.
