Report: Jets planning to stick with Todd Bowles

The New York Jets have taken a massive step back in their second season under Todd Bowles, but the regression is not expected to cost the head coach his job.

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports that Jets owner Woody Johnson is not planning to fire Bowles or general manager Mike Maccagnan, as long as the team avoids an embarrassing finish to the season.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Jets are expected to make significant changes to their roster even if they keep Bowles and don’t clean house within the front office.

After coming up just short of a postseason appearance last year, the Jets have gotten horrible play from veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. It’s somewhat of a surprise that Bowles isn’t on the hot seat considering some of the communication issues he has had with his players, but coaches typically get more than two seasons to prove themselves. If New York doesn’t improve in 2017, Bowles will be looking for work.
